The dot SE country-code top-level domain extension was launched in 1986 and assigned to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration process was really restrictive, so a very limited number of domain names were obtained. Individuals could purchase only one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a prerequisite, i.e. merely Swedish individuals, businesses and organizations could get a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was liberalized notably and, consequently, the number of .SE domains has been mounting each year.

These days, anybody can buy a dot SE domain, which allows you to contact the Swedish net community even if you do not have a local presence.
